Cynthia Floyd
1938 – 2011
Cynthia Floyd, 73, died in hospital on July 13, 2011, after a lengthy battle with lupus.
At the urging of Glenn Gould, she studied in Vienna with the help of a Canada Council grant. Upon her return to her native Ottawa, she became a well-known pianist and pedagogue with a specialty in the pianoforte. For three separate terms, she was Chair of the University of Ottawa School of Music, where a scholarship fund has been set up in her name. Cynthia was responsible for the construction of the School of Music’s Perez Hall.
