Norman (Duke) McGuirl
1927 – 2003
Passed away peacefully on January 19, 2003, in his 75th year.
Duke was a very gifted musician and was held in very high regard by his many friends and fellow musicians who had the honour and privilege of working with him. Duke’s career spanned over 60 years and covered a multitude of musical endeavours:

Ottawa Boys Band (age 8)

Toured with Maynard Ferguson Orchestra (age 17)

Toured with Barbara Ann Scott Ice Show (North America)

Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces (10 years)

Harry Pozy Orchestra, Chaudière Rose Room

Orpheus Operatic Society shows (as both player and conductor)

Local 180 Executive Board (10 years)

Radio and television shows with numerous orchestras

Teacher, St. Patrick’s High School

Many shows at the NAC, including Henry Mancini, Ginger Rodgers and Shirley MacLaine
Duke was greatly admired and will be fondly remembered by his many friends in Local 180. Duke’s wife Sharron and his daughters Jan and Linda would like to express their most sincere thanks to all of Duke’s friends for their concern and support during his last days. It was a great comfort to the family at a very difficult time
