Edward Hounsell

1939 – 2008

Ed died on August 13, 2008, at the age of 69 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.

Originally from Saskatchewan, he was a member of the RCMP Band before studying bass for two years in France. He then became a founding member of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, playing in the double bass section. Ed was known for his devotion to and pride in being a member of the NAC Orchestra and his work ethic with regard to doing his job with NACO.

After his retirement, he took great pleasure in playing bass with the Ottawa Symphony and tuba with the Manotick Brass and other groups in town. He became a life member of Local 180 in 2006.

Ed was recognized by those who knew him as the consummate gentleman and a good colleague. He was unfailingly courteous and kind, with a gentle sense of humour and a respectful regard for everyone. The world is a bit less now.
